The Undersecretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Humberto Hernández Hadad, highlighted that unified work between the public and private sectors is fundamental for the success of the country's tourism industry, which is why the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) works in axes of action, which contribute to consolidating Mexico as a world tourism power.
Representing the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, Hernández Haddad, inaugurated the XXXV edition of the Cancún Travel Mart, accompanied by the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, municipal authorities, presidents of tourism associations and businessmen in the sector, where he highlighted that to the effort between the three levels of government and private initiative it is important to add the commitment to international organizations such as the World Tourism Organization (WTO); the World Health Organization (WHO), the Inter-American Tourism Commission of the Organization of American States; the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); the World Bank and the United Nations itself through the United Nations Development Programme.
“Tourism is a fundamental pillar for the generation of jobs, investment in infrastructure and the earning of foreign currency with a virtuous circle of rapid activation of the productive sectors of the economy, stimulating the supply and demand of goods and services within the tourism value chain,” declared Hernández Haddad, at this event organized by the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres.
In this sense, the Undersecretary of Tourism explained that, in a first line of action, Sectur is working on a draft of the Official Mexican Standard (NOM) to regulate the quality and safety in services that offer short-term accommodation for the benefit of guests. and local communities; which requires those who provide the lodging service to register in the National Tourism Registry (RNT), for the benefit and protection of guests.
He added that, as a second axis of action, Sectur published a “Guide to Good Cybersecurity Practices for Tourists in Mexico” with the aim of providing a simple and didactic tool that helps avoid abuses in digital transactions that travelers carry out.
He indicated that the third axis of action is tourism promotion, through the union of efforts of the three levels of government and with the participation of the federal Sectur, the Union of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico (Asetur), as well as the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur); the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels (AMHM); the National Association of Hotel Chains (ANCH); the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac); the National Chamber of Air Transport (Canaero); the National Chamber of Motor Transport, Passenger and Tourism (Canapat); the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV); the National Council of Exporters of Tourist Services (Conexstur) and the National Alliance of Tourist Transporters (ANTT).

The Undersecretary of Tourism pointed out that the fourth axis of action is the formation of human capital in the use of technological tools that promote the collaborative economy of tourism MSMEs. He stated that Sectur is currently working on community tourism programs for the five states on the Mayan Train route: Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco and Chiapas; and for the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec between Oaxaca and Veracruz.
He stressed that the fifth axis of action is the Ángeles Verdes Tourist Attention Services program, with 724 elements distributed in the 32 states of the Republic, and which constitutes the Quality and Comprehensive Attention to Tourism Program, who collaborate to fulfill the services tourist aid, assistance for mechanical emergencies and support to the competent authorities in cases of natural phenomena.
In this way, Hernández Haddad highlighted the importance of Cancún Travel Mart as a great business event, and congratulated the participants to whom he said that the best way to celebrate it is by ratifying the firm purpose of consolidating Mexico as a world tourism power.
Likewise, as the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, has reiterated, this contributes to diversifying the economic flow towards the local population, in compliance with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool of social reconciliation.
At the time, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, commented that the recovery of the tourism industry after the pandemic is due to the workers, businessmen and investors who support and invest in the lands of Quintana Roo.
He indicated some of the infrastructure actions that will benefit tourism, such as the Mayan Train, which will have 12 stations in the state, and the completion of the next Tulum International Airport, which will make the entity the only one in the country with four airports. international.
For his part, the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, said: “We have managed to unite the tourism sector with the support of the three levels of government, we have made a lot of progress this year after finding support and support for the hotel sector in this administration to transform the state. The tourism industry adapts to new circumstances by incorporating new policies, programs and innovative projects”, and highlighted the indicators of the sector in the entity, such as the 12.3 million tourists have visited the state's destinations, and the leadership in cruises with 4 millions of visitors in the most important cruise ports.
In turn, Ana Patricia Peralta, municipal president of Benito Juárez, welcomed and invited attendees to learn about the tourist attractions of Quintana Roo, which make the state a recognized destination. The president of the Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, Jesús Almaguer Salazar, highlighted that “we have 12 destinations in a small state, we compete with countries with policies that are very open to tourism and we have to, at least, equal them in their policies, with the support of Governor Mara Lezama and the Undersecretary of Tourism, Humberto Hernández. This activity is constantly changing, we have the resources, the destinations, the people and the disposition, let's do it for the good of tourism."
